Have I got an absolute treat of a venue for you today!
If you've been watching the recent BBC Two series "Amazing hotels - Life beyond the lobby",
you may recognise this stunning venue, part of The Red Carnation Hotel Collection.
Standing grandly on the shores of Lough Corrib, the iconic Ashford Castle in Ireland underwent complete restoration , enhancement and refurbishment programme back in 2015, firmly re-establishing it as the most luxurious hotel in Ireland. Every inch of the glorious castle estate, parts of which date back to 1228, were carefully examined, restored and enhanced.
Once home to the Guinness family for over 100 years, the castle has welcomed royalty, celebrities and heads of state across its illustrious history including George V (then Prince of Wales), Ronald Reagan, Brad Pitt, John Wayne, Fred Astaire, Barbra Streisand, John Travolta and many more.
Couples in search of a romantic hideaway will find exactly that at Ashford Castle where the ancient underground wine stores have been transformed into private dining cellars and the old boat house on the shores of Lake Corrib has become a private and secluded honeymoon suite.
The Hideaway Cottage offers maximum privacy for the ideal romantic retreat, while still offering guests access to all of the amenities and services of the Castle and its 350 acre Estate. Surrounded by woodland with a 180-degree view over Ireland’s second largest lake, the secluded Cottage is offset from the Castle and gated for complete privacy. It is comprised of one bedroom, an entry hall and bathroom. Alongside all of the services that the Castle offers to guests, the Hideaway Cottage also provides a personal Hideaway Assistant who is just a phone call away to accommodate any requests.
In addition to the myriad dining options on the Ashford Castle Estate, guests can also dine privately in the Cottage, which has been lovingly designed incorporating materials found on site such as original stones and old fireplace lintels from the Castle’s Estate. With its elegant bathroom; French parquet flooring, handmade by Geraghty's of Ireland; built-in cabinets from Loughnanes of Ireland; lush fabrics; a blue Murano glass chandelier; ceiling designs by David Faulkner Interiors; and building finishes by Edward Deacy, the cottage feels like a sumptuous and cosy private home.
Each of the 68 guest rooms and 14 staterooms and suites furnished with carefully sourced antique pieces, exquisite fabrics, bespoke carpets, original artwork and marble bathrooms, sensitively complementing the ambience and tradition of this iconic building while incorporating more modern technologies such as complimentary Wi-Fi throughout the hotel.
Walking around the Castle is a breath taking experience, with the striking vaulted entrance hall and Library, the Connaught Room, Princes of Wales Bar, Drawing Room and the castle’s three restaurants – the George V dining room, the Cullen’s at the Dungeon and Cullen’s at the Cottage –all have a dining experience to meet every palate and World class service coupled with true Irish hospitality.
