A wedding is an exciting time for all the family and friends of the happy couple. I know on the run up to our own there was much discussion about hats , hatinators and fascinators by our guests.
Finding that perfect accessory can be one of the most important parts of finishing off the most beautiful of outfits. After all, how often do we get to wear a great hat ladies? ( and gents for that matter)
With this in mind, I was delighted to come across a "pop-up shop" last weekend, in perfect time for the Bailgate wedding show. Hatsonheads Designer Millinery, is the creation of Angela and Carol, two very talented ladies, based in the historic city of Lincoln.
Speaking to the business partners they tell me:
"Millinery is such a fun and creative craft, we love to design and make a hat that not only stands out in a crowd but also is very different from other hats and makes the wearer feel extra special.
The Business started trading on 1st April 2006 by the two partners Angela Coupe and Carol Robinson.
The business was born out of a friendship and joint collaboration of years of experience, training and skills acquired in the creative and fashion industries. Having studied together on various courses over the years Angela and Carol finally met again at Lincoln University and graduated in Fashion Studies.
Since leaving University they have both been Semi Finalists in The Hat Designer of the Year Competition for 2 years running, also selected to show Hat Collections on the Catwalk 3 times at the International Alternative Arts London Fashion Week and received an International ‘Hatty Award’ for the creation of their Hat Making Kits.
The business partnership was based at the St John’s Workshops Bracebridge Heath in Lincoln and was conceived with the intention to provide a working fashion studio for the design and manufacture of Bespoke Millinery and to also offer a host of Fashion related courses for adults and children.
The initial objectives were to create unique individual Collections of Designer Millinery for special occasions to sell from the website and specialist trade shows and to offer a bespoke Millinery service for individual clients.
The Fashion related courses for adults named IN2Fashion Courses started with Dressmaking, Knitting, Millinery, Felt making, Fabric Jewellery and ‘Hat making Hen Days’.
‘Day’s for Hens’ were specially designed courses for Gaggles of girlfriends to enjoy an afternoon creating their own Frilly, Fancy, Feathery Fascinator Hat ready for their Big Day!)
The IN2Fashion Courses expanded over the years offering more variety and children’s courses. Angela and Carol also worked as freelance creative practitioners for the education and craft sector.
Over the past two years they have decided to streamline the business to allow themselves more time to spend with their families. The studio has been relocated to the bottom of Angela’s garden where they continue to specialise in Bespoke Millinery for special occasions, weddings, Royal Ascot, magazine photo shoots and PR and Marketing. They also enjoy running their fun Hat making Hen parties in local venues and hotels."
I'm sure you'll agree these are some seriously unique designs, that would certaily turn heads. What a great idea for a Hen do too, nothing like being creative and having a giggle with the girls at the same time.
