Extraordinary Entertainment: Do you believe in magic?
It was a tremendous privilege to perform magic on Lisa and Jon's wedding day. Having the opportunity to entertain friends and family on such a special occasion is one of the many perks of my profession and, coupled with the majestic location, it truly was an exceptional experience. Stoke Rochford Hall has established itself as one of the finest wedding and events venues in the Midlands, and this elegant Victorian mansion played host to Lisa and Jon's nearest and dearest.
A wedding reception provides ample opportunity for a close-up magician to enchant and enthrall, and Lisa and Jon had requested that I perform during the early part of the day. Mingling with the guests freely during the drinks reception period is always fantastic, and generates a positive atmosphere. Magic helps to bring people together quickly who may not know one another, and new friendships will be made.
The sun was shining and it was tremendous to perform ice-breaker effects for guests who had traveled from far and wide in the immaculately landscaped gardens. Close-up magic is versatile, and regardless of the weather, or where the guests are, it can be performed virtually anywhere. It was fantastic to make acquaintance with so many lovely people through the mediums of card magic, mind-reading, sleight-of-hand and illusion.
Generating a warm rapport with the guests on a wedding day during the drinks reception always provides me with an excellent base to build on for the wedding breakfast period to follow. Table magic is a slightly different beast to the 'mix-and-mingle' variety, and I will essentially provide a show for everyone at each table. This must be timed appropriately during the meal for maximum impact. It is also wonderful to be present during this part of the reception as I can perform a special display of prestidigitation for the newly-weds and the top table. In Lisa and Jon's case this involved one of my very own special effects with a wine bottle and I was delighted with their lovely reaction.
Overall, it truly was one of the highlights of the year to be part of such a magical occasion at Stoke Rochford Hall. Thank you again to everyone for making me so welcome – and for being so receptive to my magic. Congratulations to Lisa and Jon, and best wishes for the future. I do hope that I will have the opportunity to entertain you all again soon.
